Follicular Isolation Technique (FIT) is one of most exciting new procedure in the field of hair restoration. Unlike tradition strip harvesting, FIT does not create a linear scar on the back on the scalp. The surgery is ideal for patients that wish to keep a very short hair cut, or for those who desire a less invasive alternative to strip harvesting.
With FIT, Dr. Mwamba isolates certain follicle groups in the donor area and carefully removes them with a small surgical utensil. The discreet follicular unit grafts are then placed snuggly into tiny incision over the balding and thinning areas. The extraction sites in the donor area heal on their own, without bandages or sutures, and, once healed, the scalp bears little or no visible evidence of surgical intervention. Large sessions are possible with FIT, but, since the surgery is labor intensive, “mega-sessions” must be executed over consecutive days.
